Thomas & Friends Recall- Update

I took this from the China View Blog and thought it was worth copying to get the information out. I have been at a loss as to what to do with my little poisenous Thomas trains… now I know.
Lead when ingested can cause irreversible nervous damage, particularly in young children. Acute lead poisoning is not common, but low doses of lead can still cause damage in a long term.No injuries or illnesses have so far been reported associated with use of the train toys.
But RC2 Corp. said in a press release that “consumers should take the recalled toys away from young children immediately and return the affected products to RC2 Corporation for a replacement product.”
RC2 required that consumers return recalled toys with a completed return form which can be downloaded from its website at http://recalls.rc2.com/recalls_Wood_0607.html
Depending upon the location, consumers send affected toys and return form to a different address.
In the United States, they should be sent to
RC2 Corporation
Attn: Wooden Vehicle Recall
2021 9th Street SE
Dyersville, IA
52040-2316In Canada, they should be sent to
KRG Logistics
Attn: RC2 Wooden Vehicle Recall
170 Traders Blvd
East Mississagua, ON L4Z 1W7
Canada
What worries me is that the one we pulled (I can’t find the other!) has paint chipped off from apparent chewing. How am I to know if my child has ingested lead and over the course of time will slowly deteriorate? I’m still at a loss as to how this could happen.

As far as finding out if your child has ingested lead, bring your concerns to the attention of your pediatrician. There is a blood test that can determine your child’s lead level. A blood test is no fun, but it might give you the peace of mind. Just a thought.

I think I made the biggest mistake of my life!! My son has always had a problem with chewing on toys and he did have some of the Thomas train pieces that were recalled. My son has had Thomas Train as long as I can remember and did chew on some of the pieces and I would throw them out if they were too damaged. My son is 7 years old now and we have had him in therapy for the last 4 years. He was diagnosed with severe ADHD, OCD, Bipolar, he has been in clinics and they don’t know exactly what the problem is. I could kick myself for throwing out the pieces. He does have some train pieces left that are chewed up that I put in the basement after I found out, but they are not the affected pieces that I threw out in the past. Now I have no proof that all my sons problems could have been in part to all the years of chewing on his Thomas Train set. I am wondering how long lead poisining can be in your system if you had ingested it a year ago or so.

Thank you Mommy Zabs for the reply and information about when the lead toys were released. It is very much appreciated!!! He should be safe from the infected Thomas Toys, but my husband still feels we should get a lead test for him just because of all the toys he has chewed over the years and it seems you never know anymore. We just want to make sure.
Thank you again very much!!
