Christians of the Earth

Okay so I have some questions…. I’m really wanting to hear opinions because this is not an issue I’m landed on. I’m seeing major growths of environmentalism in the Christian circles I’m exposed to. I see people going to large extremes to reduce their carbon footprint and such. I’m not here to debate whether or not global warming is going on and whether or not it has anything to do with carbon. I’m not a scientist and I have read many informed things from both sides of the argument. I’ve landed on God knows.
As Christians I think we should be good stewards of the earth. I believe we should not just waste. I believe we should be good stewards of money. I believe recycling is a good thing. I believe pollution is not good. So know I have no opposition to being responsible and showing respect for that which God has created.
What I want to know is where does loving the earth cross the line. Where is the line that steps from loving the earth to worshipping it? You know there are extreme environmentalists that place the earth high above human life (which is not biblical… we were called to subdue the earth therefore man’s existance is higher than the earth.) There are environmentalists that believe that having many children is anti-environmental because you are increasing carbon footprints. I’m not making this stuff up. It’s people like this I don’t want to be in the same ranks with. I will steward the earth well, try to save energy, minimize polution, carry my own bags to the grocery store and use earth friendly products… HOWEVER I will never put the earth over the existance of human life.
So when as Christians have we gone to far?
And as far as global warming and the theories that go with it as to how the earth will be destroyed…. it’s in complete contrast to how the Lord says it will end in the book of Revelation… so how do we reconcile that?
PS- what is up with some of the environmentalists I know being huge chain smokers? Isn’t that some sort of oxymoron. Smoking Environmentalist.
