I’m proud to be part of a generation that does not see color of skin as a disqualification for president! Can I get an Amen? As plainly obvious in the post below, I do not support Obama, but I do take pride in the fact that we have come so far from where the previous generation so wrongly was.
NOW McCain has made his Veep pick. And it is not only a WOMAN, but a MOMMY. A fifth time mom as recent as APRIL. As a mommy myself I think this is incredible move forward for women. She has an infant and is running for Veep. Nice. Me next? (Just kidding)
What a great year.

Maybe now us stay at home mom’s can get the tax break I believe that we should get. We get a tax break for each child, but if we stay at home with them, we should get that break doubled! Go girl/mommy power!! :o)

This is the best political news I’ve heard in a long, long time. She was my #1 preference and I was just praying yesterday that this would happen.
Initial reports are that Obama’s camp is attacking her lack of experience. Sure. Go strap the polygraphs and see the truth. This is the worst possible pick for them.
Obama - the “change” guy - in his first big decision as a candidate, picks Biden. Not Hillary or any other woman. Not a person with executive experience. McCain picks a woman who is roughly Obama’s age.
Obama, who has no executive experience, and who has spent his 4 years in the Senate running for President, is making a mistake in criticizing the VP pick for not having enough experience.
And true conservatives will love Palin. Check out her views and her voting record. Truly pro-life, including keeping her child with Down Syndrome who many would have aborted. She has done real, live government reform. She told the Federal Gov’t to skip the “bridge to nowhere.” She sold the governor’s jet that a Republican had purchased.
I can’t wait to see how the Hillary backers react. Did they really want a woman, or did they want a pro-abortion woman?
Time will tell if this was a good pick politically, but I couldn’t be happier.
I hope McCain wins a term or two followed by a couple terms of President Palin.

I think it is HILARIOUS how the democrats are jumping on her lack of experience! Ummmm, I’m pretty sure that being a governor is holding an executive position, and being a senator is NOT. Just sayin…..

i’ve been marveling at the sheer brilliance of this move. i didn’t know where i stood, but this may just tip it for me.
being a mother of a child with down syndrome, i can’t express how wonderful the exposure and awareness would be if the vice president was a mom of son with ds. it’s amazing. and i think it’s a god thing.
yes, it’s good to be a part of a generation that has overcome it’s prejudices enough to elect an african american president. but having my daughter has opened my eyes to another prejudice that doesn’t even show up on most people’s radar. when you are targeted while still in the womb for you life to be ended, that’s extreme prejudice.

It is good to see a woman up for the position and not just to break some glass ceiling. She seems pretty smart and most importantly on the “right” side of the fence.

i love this too - i wasn’t sure at first, but the more i find out about her the more i like her and think she will bring amazing change to Washington. She’s a very strong woman with an incredible background. There’s a fun profile about her on PEOPLE’s website: http://www.people.com/people/article/0,,20222507,00.html
I think she will be amazing in the White House - as a woman, a conservative fiscally and in her values as well, and wise in the area of environmental issues. i’m excited to see her toughness come out - i think she’s going to surprise a LOT of people over the next 2 months!!

It’s a slap in the face of other Republican women like Kay Bailey Hutchison, bless her heart, who was forced to stumble through an interview on TV trying to make the case for Palin whom she has never met. There are certainly women in the Republican party who were “in line” for this before Palin.
Did the Rovian type advisors to McCain just cynically think that throwing a young attractive inexperienced woman into the mix would satisfy women who long to see a woman president?
Women, and Republican women, are not so stupid as to fall for that! It is reminiscent of the Republicans putting up Alan Keyes to run against Barack Obama for the Illinois Senate just because he was black. Voters saw through that pretty quickly.
Picking Sarah Palin was clearly a Hail Mary pass. But the McCain campaign is tapping into an archetype that resonates deep in the human psyche. That of the unknown innocent plucked from obscurity and magnificently rising to the challenge. Hollywood has long recognized the appeal of this fantasy. Think Mr. Smith Goes to Washington, A Face in the Crowd, Dave, Mr. Deeds Goes to Town. So in questioning Palin, it’s not enough for Democrats to mock the smallness of Wasilla, Alaska or shout, “it’s insulting,” “it’s ridiculous,” “it’s pathetic.” They must make the case that given the gulf between the crises we face and her capacity to handle them, this is a truly dangerous choice.
Forget Dan Quayle. Palin is more Harriet Miers — chosen for all the wrong reasons, and glaringly not up to the task.
Maybe an anxious nation can offer John McCain a do-over.

Anon, I typically don’t allow anonymous postings, but thought I would let yours through, though I’m not sure why you wouldn’t just name yourself.
You are totally entitled to your own opinion but I encourage you to give her a chance. She sounds like she is full of surprises. I definitely don’t think you should discredit someone because they are pretty.
PS- Is this brynne’s friend because I read a post that sounded a lot like this.

I’m beyond thrilled. Been hoping for this for months, but didn’t think that the pundits would have the guts for it.
McCain has shown tremendous faith in working mothers. No more “choosing between children and career.” I find it incredibly remarkable that Palin kept her baby. We are constantly told that women “need” abortion because they cannot get ahead in their careers with a brood of kids; that we “need” late-term abortion because of diagnoses like Down’s; that we “need” abortion because the next kid will overwhelm the family. Well, a mother of four keeps her baby, diagnosed with Down’s, stays in the governor’s office and then gets chosen to be the running mate for a serious contender for the Presidency? Yeah, I think we don’t “need” abortion any longer!
