My Response to the Announcement of Bristol Palin Pregnancy

In my last post a few of you started posting your opinions about Sarah Palin’s daughter’s pregnancy. I was going to just post my thoughts on the comments, but figured I would just do a post instead. Honestly I think that Obama put it best when he said,
“I have said before and I will repeat again: People’s families are off limits,” Obama said. “And people’s children are especially off-limits. This shouldn’t be part of our politics. It has no relevance to Gov. Palin’s performance as a governor or her potential performance as a vice president. So I would strongly urge people to back off these kinds of stories. You know my mother had me when she was 18 and how a family deals with issues and teenage children, that shouldn’t be a topic of our politics.”
I really feel that this has nothing to do with her run. I think Bristol is almost an adult, she is getting married and having a precious baby. Yes, she made a choice that has altered her life forever, but she made a choice for life, and a baby is ALWAYS a blessing. My heart goes out to the family as I’m sure this could have been heart breaking to her parents at first. But this is their private issue and Obama is right, families off limits. I hope the folks at the Daily Kos feel like idiots now for proposing Trig was really Bristol’s baby and that there was an elaborate cover-up on the part of Sarah Palin to make it look like hers.
As a christian does this bring Gov. Palin down a notch for me? Absolutely not. People have free will and hopefully our children will never rebel. You know I have struggled over this issue and pray for my children that they won’t just follow the rest of the world in the decisions they make for their lives. However, people mess up sometimes and God still loves them. It sounds to me like Bristol and her boyfriend Levi are taking full responsibility for their decision.

Well put. I hadn’t read Obama’s take on it- glad to know he’s coming out strong against the stupidity. I love how the liberals are making such a big deal out of this… very ironic.

Great post, girl! I totally agree…. and was also very thankful for Obama’s statement on the matter as well. Even if I don’t agree with many things that have come from his mouth, I do agree with that one!

I appreciated Obama’s comments, and I really hope that as the weeks go on, he sticks to that philosophy! As for the koz folks, they not only didn’t listen, but they’ve gotten even more disgusting and vile. I had to force myself to stop reading, it was making me feel really dark–I don’t know how else to describe it. There are some very dark souls out there.

I agree w/ that although it does give the opponents more mud to sling.
HOWEVER, my mom got pregnant t 17 dad was 16 they had me and raised me together, in fact they just celebrated 28 yrs of marriage.
So I do not condemn them AT ALL. It is the hardest thing to do when older let alone being a teenager but they have a wonderful support system and the daughter has a great role model. This will NOT affect my vote either. I just hate that it gives our opponents more leverage(in their eyes).
