Must Haves for Morning (all-day) Sickness!

You may have noticed I have not blogged with my usual consistency. Morning (all day) sickness has robbed me of my blog juju.

Since I have been spending a lot of time lately with my head down toward the toilet I thought I would share some “must-haves” to help you get through the dreaded morning sickness!

1. Ponytail Holder- If your hair is chin-length or longer always have a pony-tail holder readily available. I find keeping one on my wrist works well.

2. Close your eyes- I can not think of one reason you would have to see anything that is going on . Spare yourself and don’t look. Dirty toilets, processed food, bile, all yucky.

3. Speaking of dirty toilet, TOILET CLEANER- Make someone in your house keep the toilets clean. If you are going to be forced to have your head over it on a regular basis having a dirty toilet is salt in the wound.

4. Toothbrush- Keep your toothbrush handy and even stash one in your purse. A good substitue is Orbitz gum because it contains an ingredient that actually cleans your teeth.

5. Sweats- Bum around in a big comfy tee and your softest sweats. Bonus points if the back of your tee says “YOU DID THIS TO ME” in big bold letters for your DH to see as he comes to check on you. ;)

6. NON-greasy food- It will only irritate your morning sickness. Stay away from greasy food.

7. H2O- Drink water constantly to avoid dehydration.

8. Ladies, this is the big one. My doctor gave me the BEST remedy. It did not make me 100% but makes me at least functionable. He told me to go out and get UNISOM and VITAMIN B COMPLEX and to take them at the same time. He said that it makes an old drug they used to use called BENDECTIN. I had tried every other old wives tail and they never worked, but this one did!

I took Zofran towards the end of my 3 mth vomiting haul. It worked but it’s not cheap.

Great list, esp. the last tip. I haven’t felt more than just a bit “funky” in the past couple of weeks, but I will keep it it mind just in case. Hope you’re feeling better soon!

#5 made me LOL!! Too funny. Only problem for me would be that dh will not be ANYWHERE around me if I’m vomiting. Otherwise he’d be shoving me out of the way and vomiting himself!

Oh dear. Brings back memories. Ones that I would rather forget, thank you very much.
All I can say is wait. It will pass. I never found anything that helped. Diet coke was the only thing that made me want to get out of bed in the morning. But that really wasn’t a cure. Just a distraction.

I wish I could tell you how to make it go away! I was sick for almost 6 months with my first. I got through it with sweet tea. Mostly because it would cut the acid taste of just about everything. Hopefully the sickness will be gone soon!

Aww, I hope you feel better soon. As much as I look forward to babies, this part does NOT sound fun!!

Good tips right there. I was lucky, I never really had much sickness with my two. well, with my first I felt queasy 24/7 for the first few months, but it never resulted in vomiting.

thankfully I’m never going there again. There is no chance I’m going through a three day stunt to bring the belly bean into the world with almost no drugs. We’re adopting our next child!

I wish you the best of luck in the coming months, x x x

Oh, I’m sorry to hear you’ve got such bad morning sickness! I have to say though -you said, “if the back of your tee says “YOU DID THIS TO ME”” That’s hysterical! :)

It’s been a long time since I’ve had to worry about any of this but I remember I would have water and saltine crackers right by my bed. I drank a lot of water at night (just because I was so thirsty) but then in the morning when I woke up - before I even moved or sat up - I would eat a few crackers. That helped me but it sounds like you might have it worse than I did. I hope you feel better soon!

I loved tip #5! LOL! Too cute!

My sister in law is going through the same thing. Her midwife recommended the same unisome/vitamin B combo. Her morning sickness is much more tolorable this time around, as opposed to her first 2 pregnancys. I hope it works for you too.
Glad to hear from you again!

    Have a happy Thanksgiving!

Elizabeth, I feel for you! were you this sick with your boys? my girls made me the same way, but there was one thing i took for my first that really helped, and that was metaclopromide (or something like that.) it really helped with Lux. Not so much with zaine. the other thing is to have a small bite of something in your stomache at all times. if it gets too empty you are destined for the toilet. even eating one saltine every 15 minutes. im thinking you are having a girl…just a guess!!

I do have a helpful hint as I went through all day sickness from conception to delivery literally with all three of mine with the last one being the worst:-) I used the kitchen sink. I didn’t have to bend down as far, I could cradle myself easier as my body grew and grew and let cold water run over your face as you expel your food:-)or in my case continue to dry heave even after the contents of my stomach was gone. OK - that was a bit too much information. Hope it helps and I will pray it ends for you soon. Love ya!

I love the one with the T-shirt.

May I suggest a normal toothbrush for cleaning your teeth with toothpaste, and another for post-sickness?

I’ve heard, incidentally, that morning sickness is positively correlated with infant health and intelligence.

How about wearing a “Depends” for leakage? Now don’t laugh. When I was pregnant I too had the “all day” variety of morning sickness. Before going on medication for it - I would typically throw up so much and so hard, that even if I had just emptied my bladder right before - I’d be emptying it again on the floor.

My sister had a tried and true method for morning sickness - I of course never tried it b/c the method might just do the opposite for me.

You boil white rice for ??? and then drink the warm rice-y water from it. She was a missionary in a foreign country - so don’t know if that’s where the idea came from or not. Seemed to work for her.

I must admit, I expected to read a list of foods you could eat to settle your stomach, but this list entertained me more and gave me a laugh. With that said, I just wanted to let you know I enjoyed the way you wrote this post. It was entertaining and funny, which keep me reading.

Thanks for the laugh! I look forward to reading more of your posts.

I’m 41 weeks today and I still have morning sickness, the only thing that has worked for me is Zofran which is sadly suuuuuuuper expensive thank God for insurance. I tried everything the only thing that even comes close to settling besides Zofran is white milk
