Thanks to Noah Tutak I have been given the opportunity to review some books by Kids Ahead Publishing! Help! Mom! There are Liberals Under My Bed, Help! Mom! The 9th Circuit Nabbed the Nativity!, and Help! Mom! Hollywood’s in My Hamper, from the Help! Mom! Series, by Katharine DeBrecht, portray the ideas of liberalism and conservatism. You will find yourself laughing as you read to your children ideas they can grasp. I will be reviewing one each of the three books written by Katharine DeBrecht each week.

(Warning to my left-leaning friends… you may not be to pleased with these posts.)

This first week I read, Help! Mom! There are Liberals Under My Bed!
Help! Mom! There are Liberals Under My Bed! had me shouting “AMEN!” with the turn of every page. Katharine DeBrecht uses the illustration of children building a lemonade stand to break down important issues of our nation to a level children will understand. The issues touched on in simple terms are:

• Building a business from the ground up.
• Charity vs. taxes.
• Religious rights vs. being politically correct.
• The concept of “it takes a village” vs. Parental rights.
• And government ultimately taking over the private sector.

You will find yourself laughing the whole way through while your children simultaneously learn the value of limited government. Even the illustrations teach a lesson using satire. In a world where politicizing confuses motives and makes wrong sound right and compassionate, it may even be a good idea to pick up a few copies for your friends baffled by the issues. Its quick colorful read should be un-intimidating for anyone. Help! Mom! There are Liberals Under My Bed! belongs out of the bookshelf and on your coffee table. I know my copy will remain out in the open in the hopes anyone that walks in my home will pick them up for a quick lesson in basic economics and personal freedoms.

Edit: It was just pointed out to me by t.y. that these were printed in China. For some reason I thought I had checked that. Just be aware if you are planning on buying but are boycotting M.I.C. products. Did you know my Bible was printed in China. Been meaning to talk to some people at Zondervan!

Glad to see you are starting your kids down the path to conservatism early. Woo hoo!

Ha! Ha! Books like these make it so much more difficult to retain “left leaning friends” with a clear conscience… perhaps, it is because with most lefties, their flavor of ‘friendship’ is all about them.

DI, while I agree with you on a lot… I have to disagree on your last line. I do have many left leaning friends that have been some of my truest friends. While I may not agree with their politics, they are wonderful people.

      Thanks all- Mommy Zabs

sorry i have not posted here and just watching. currently engaged in great dialog on nsl about finances and war.

my wife told me that this post was right up my alley, and guess what, it is. when we have little ones, they will be reading this. however, is there a conservative book one for balanced humor? of course, that will not get the airtime the liveral one would, but we do need balance…

My apologies to anyone offended by my comment above. That was not my intention. I carefully explained my view to E. after she kindly e-mailed me with her disagreement. I appreciate her honesty and taking the time to be frank with me about her opinion. I made every effort to properly reciprocate in my reply, and she is welcome to re-print anything, everything or nothing I said as she sees fit.

      Thanks DI.

      Wow!
Thank god I live in Canada.
When are you folks down south going to close the border between our two Countrys?
      Please hurry it up.
Oh, by the way, your immigration of people to Canada is way up.
(Check it out, this is a fact)
The last time it was this high was during the Vietnam war.
      Does that tell you something?
You keep printing out your kids books, and lady you keep loving them.

PS: Your Country is going to hell in a hand basket real fast.

Wow Canuck. I have read your comment about 10 times over trying to figure out what exactly you are saying and who you are mad at :)
Me? The book? (have you read it?) The comments? Our country? The War?
Of course this book has nothing to do with the war. People may comment what they wish. We have this great thing here called freedom, so Lord knows we are free to wish for a more limited government. I have friends that believe contrary though- so I don’t think I’m evil or anything, it’s just a different perspective.

Please try to write more clearly what you are talking about- as I’m confused as to what you think is wrong with our country. Honestly I have no problem with US citizens going there :) Though we do not have a draft so I am not sure how that relates to the Vietnam war :) We have had Canadians coming from here for a long time. I actually have quite a few relatives in Canada, friends as well, and my best friend is married to a Canadian but lives here.

There are pros and cons to living a lot of places. I did not diss Canada in this post, so I’m not sure what your deal with the US is.

Hell in a hand basket really quick—
do you realize the weight of those words you just wrote?
Do you realize you just tried to curse an entire nation of people… That you just told us we are all going to hell. That is a pretty big deal! I hope you aren’t going to tell me you are anti-war… becasue I wouldn’t beleive you with the way you are talking. Most my pacifist friends are much nicer people and would never damn an entire place to hell let alone another person.

      Think.
