Last week I reviewed the first in a series of three books from the Help! Mom! collection by Katherine DeBrecht and Kid’s Ahead Publishing, Help! Mom! There are Liberals Under My Bed!.
The second in this children’s series, Help! Mom! The 9th Circuit Nabbed the Nativity festively tells the story a Politically Correct Christmas Winter Holiday!
Don’t be fooled by this book’s less offensive title. It possesses the same sting of reality, only this time the activist judges, the ACLU, and all other agendas dedicated to banishing God from society are the target. Through the story of two boys who lose their Christmas program at the hand of these organizations, your children will learn that the constitution grants us freedom of religion, not from religion.
Caricatures of “Al Snore” and “Hillary Clunkton” will have you laughing your right-wing off. Katherine DeBrecht nails it! She reduces important issues down to a simple yet entertaining way that your child will grasp. This should be a must-read during the holiday CHRISTMAS season.

“the constitution grants us freedom of religion, not from religion”
Then why does the establishment clause come before the exercize clause? -Having fun with semantics…
i know this country isn’t perfect (in the sense that i’d love for millions not to be spent on taking a little teeny cross out of the seal of california as championed by the ACLU) BUT i feel like the ‘freedom of religion’ protects me as a christian. i don’t want a our govt. (no matter who is in the white house) putting forth their interpretation of the gospel (or worse, their outworkings of those interpretations).
Exactly.
Nicole-I’m all for “freedom of religion”, just not freedom FROM religion. you and I are on the same page on this one.
A question: why the talking point about “Freedom from religion?” Atheism is a religion in itself, being a definitive statement about God. Surely, you all want to spend your lives free FROM that influence in the schools and in the town. That’s what the push for creationism in public schools is all about: freedom from the religion of atheism.
Here is a really good test to see whether something is religious: if the Christian act were replaced with a Muslim one, would you see it as religious? It is difficult to see religion when it is your own; the same applies to atheism, I will admit.
Consider that some towns may be dominant Muslim or atheist. The same rules that you would make it okay for Christian religious displays would be applicable in those towns and allow them Muslim or atheist religious displays. This may seem to be non-intuitive, but consider that many Christians would be upset if their kids were forced to be in a play about dinosaurs and evolution.
Good jurisprudence will apply equally well, regardless of which religion is put into the plaintiff’s argument. While it can seem ridiculous, if you are Christian, for people to litigate over small displays of Christianity, it would not seem ridiculous if those aforementioned displays were Muslim or atheist.
The O- I actually completely agree with you on this one. For Christians to have a play on the Christmas story they should be equally fine to have one on evolution. When I homeschoole (hopefully) my children I will teach them evolution as well- as a theory that the world learns- not necessarily truth. I do think it is wrong when Christians push their own freedom of religion while suppressing others. I am fine with displays of other religions. They really have no bearing on me and do not cause me to “stumble” in any manner. The only expression of muslim belief I have a serious problem would be that of the extremists who practice Jihad.
Thanks for once again using your amazing logic skills. I’m happy everytime you contribute to a thread on my blog.
